DIE  GROSSE HALLE  PROJECT  IN BERLIN

The project was sketched by Hitler and designed by
Albert Speer,  Hitler's non
official architect but entitled as GBI (Generalbauinspektor) with the rank of State
Secretary. The Globe or Große Halle ( Great dome)  and his infrastructure were
scheduled for completion in 1950. It would have accomodated
FOUR TIMES the St
Peter basilica  in Rome for  a total volume of  741 million of cubic feet and an area
of 22,500 sq.feet.
Inside the Globe,  10 columns would be 98 ft high of red granite of 10 ft. in
diameter which were already quarried in Sweden at the beginning of the war. A
solid slab of 1050 feet by 1050 feet  was supposed to be posed on the ground at a
depth of 106 ft to compensate for the sandy soil of Berlin which would have been
renamed Germania. From here, der Führer could have addressed 180,000 happy
listeners. The nazi regime was nothing but a huge staged parody of Government
based on the principle of the "
ruin value".

In the same spirit, Hitler and Speer
planned an Arc of Triumph which would
be 400 ft. high (vs. 160 ft. for the Paris's
Arc de Triomphe)  with the names of 1,8
million dead German soldiers of WW1
chiseled on its walls.

After the war, Speer recognized
although a little to late that "our plan for
Berlin completely lacked a sense of
proportion. We deprived ourselves of
all the contrasts essential for animating
amd loosening the pattern. The entire
conception was stamped by a
monumental rigidity that would have
counteracted all our efforts to
introduce urban life into this avenue."

The crazy projects of architect Adolf
We could almost thank him and his boss  to have also
so well contributed to the destruction of all those
hideous urbanistic plans deprived of all human
feelings. Did Hitler have a soul ? How could he ? He
did not even have a decent eye for architecture.

This monstruousity would have dwarfed the Paris Arc
de Triomphe because such were  Hitler's architectural
visions and ambitions
After the war, Hitler was said to
have lacked any sense of proportion
in his paintings. The reality was
worse : he lacked all sense of
proportions in everything because
he was untrained and monstruously
egotist
